As I had to attend a conference in San Diego, we decided to make a mini vacation for the 3 of us. We left Boston bright and early Monday morning for the long flight to the west coast. Maggie, now a seasoned traveler, took everything in stride and was great on the plane. We picked up our rental car, and after a quick stop at In-N-Out, settled in to our first hotel in the Gaslamp district.
While I was working Tuesday and Wednesday, we had arranged for a babysitter to watch Maggie so Patrick could do some work as well. Caprice, the sitter we found from Marion’s Childcare, was nothing short of fantastic! She took Maggie for walks around the area, brought toys for her, and kept us posted often throughout the days – it was great having someone so wonderful keep Maggie busy so we could both work.
Thursday afternoon started the holiday part of trip. We started with lunch by the USS Midway and got to check out the statue of “The Homecoming” – was very cool.
Lunching!

Friday we headed to the San Diego Zoo – it was a great day and despite being there from 9am to 3pm, Maggie was a champ! 2 naps in the stroller and not a single tear all day! The zoo was really impressive, the place is huge and really well maintained, we got there right when it opened and spent the first hour or so walking through exhibits with hardly another person in sight – definitely the best way to do it!
Saturday we met up with Pat’s old college friend Liz for breakfast, then we drove down to Coronado Beach for some sun and fun! Maggie enjoyed her first beach trip and despite the chilly water, dipped her toes in the ocean – it was tough to get her to leave!
Our last day we drove north to Torrey Pines, Del Mar, and La Jolla – it was a quieter day just wondering the coast, a great ending to the week!
The hotel we stayed at for the 2nd half of our trip had a pool and we took advantage of it almost daily – Maggie is definitely like her mother, a little fish who loves the water!
The flight back today was nice as we had an extra seat in our row – amazing the difference a little more space can be! It’s good to be back home, though am already missing the wonderful San Diego weather…will definitely be visiting again!
